Owen Carlyle Jordal - burial

Owen Carlyle Jordal, great grandson of Sigri Gunnersdatter and Ole Larson, was buried (obituary posted yesterday) at the First Lutheran Cemetery in Lee county, Illinois.

Donald Earle Jordal - burial

Donald Earle Jordal, great grandson of Sigri Gunnersdatter and Ole Larson was born August 9, 1930 to Mabel Odith (Berg) and Omer O Jordal in DeKalb county, Illinois.    He married Donna Marilyn Stoddard on February 19, 1955.

Donald passed away July 11, 2004, in Malta, DeKalb county, Illinois.    He was buried at the First Lutheran Cemetery in Lee county, Illinois.   Here is a photo of his grave marker.

Donald's grandparents were Ingeborg (Haldorsdatter Mæland) and Omund Jordal.

Gilbert Eugene Oleson Jr - burial

Gilbert Eugene Oleson Jr was born to Sylvia Anna (Jordal) and Gilbert Eugene Oleson on June 28, 1925 in Madison, Lac qui parle county, Minnesota.

Gilbert married Thelma Humphreys on June 26, 1954 in DeKalb, DeKalb county, Illinois.  

Gilbert passed away July 5, 1999 in DeKalb, DeKalb county, Illinois and his wife Thelma passed away a few years later on July 6, 2007, also in DeKalb.   Here is an obituary* for Thelma.




































Thelma and Gilbert were buried at the First Lutheran Cemetery in Lee, Lee county, Illinois.   Here is a photo of their monument.

Here is a photo of the back of the monument, memorializing Gilbert's service in the Army during World War II.

Gilbert's paternal grandparents were Anna (Larson Jossendal) and Gunder Jordal, great grandparents were Sigri Gunnersdatter and Ole Larson.

Omer O Jordal - burial

Omer O Jordal, grandson of Sigri Gunnersdatter and Ole Larson was born October 19, 1902 in Milan township, DeKalb, county, Illinois to Ingeborg (Haldorsdatter Mæland) and Omund Jordal.

Omer married Mabel Odith Berg on July 2, 1927.   Mabel was born March 16, 1905 in Illinois to Martha and Andrew Berg.

Martha passed away in Illinois in January 1982.  Omer passed away in Malta, DeKalb county, Illinois on January 18, 1984.   Martha and Omer were buried at the First Lutheran Church in Lee county, Illinois.

Mabel Leila (Jordal) Edwards - burial

Mabel Leila Edwards, granddaughter of Sigri Gunnersdatter and Ole Larson was born November 11, 1895 in Milan township, DeKalb county, Illinois to Anna (Larson Jossendal) and Gunder Jordal.

Mabel married Arthur James Edwards on June 6, 1917 in Lee, Lee county, Illinois.   Arthur was born to Inger (Johannsdatter) and Jacob Edwards on September 12, 1882 in Lee county, Illinois.

Mabel passed away October 18, 1978 in Dixon, Lee county, Illinois.  Arthur passed away on April 23, 1954 in Lee county, Illinois.    Mabel and Arthur were buried at First Lutheran Cemetery in Lee county, Illinois.

Sylvia Anna (Jordal) Oleson - burial

Sylvia Anna Oleson, granddaughter of Sigri Gunnersdatter and Ole Larson was the first child born to Anna (Larson Jossendal) and Gunder Jordal.    Sylvia was born September 29, 1894 in Milan township, DeKalb county, Illinois.

Sylvia married Gilbert Eugene Oleson on January 1, 1913 in Lee, Lee county, Illinois.  Gilbert was born July 10, 1885 to Elsie  'Elsa' (Johannsdatter) and Ole Olseon in Lee county, Illinois.   (Gilbert was the older brother of Bennie who had married Sylvia's cousin, Celia Jordal)

Sylvia passed away in December 1977 in Franklin Grove, Lee county, Illinois.  Gilbert passed away May 30, 1952 in DeKalb, DeKalb county, Illinois.   The Oleson's were buried at First Lutheran Cemetery in Lee county, Illinois.

Celia (Jordal) Oleson - burial

Celia Berthana (Jordal) Oleson, granddaughter of Sigri Gunnersdatter and Ole Larson was the first child born to Ingeborg (Haldorsdatter Mæland) and Omund Jordal on November 29, 1894 in Milan township, DeKalb county, Illinois.

Celia married Bennie Elmer Oleson on July 23, 1926.    Bennie was born to Elsa (Johannasdatter) and Ole Oleson in Illinois on December 22, 1894.

Celia passed away May 15, 1972 in Lee, Lee county, Illinois.  Bennie had passed away several years earlier on October 16, 1949 in Illinois.    They were buried at the First Lutheran Cemetery in Lee county.

Omund Jordal - burial

Omund Jordal, son of Sigri Gunnersdatter and Ole Larson was buried at the First Lutheran Church cemetery in Lee county, Illinois.

Olai Jordal - burial

Olai Jordal, grandson of Sigri Gunnersdatter and Ole Larson died December 31, 1936 in DeKalb, DeKalb county, Illinois.

Olai was buried at the First Lutheran Cemetery in Lee county, Illinois in the Omund Jordal family plot.   Olai's marker is located in the lower left corner of the plot photo below next to the numerical marker.

Olai was born to my great grandparents, Ingeborg (Malland) and Omund Jordal on September 8, 1896 in DeKalb county, Illinois.      Olai was the first of Ingeborg and Omund's 12 children to pass away.

Isabelle (Halvorson) and Lars Olson Jordal - burial

Lars Jordal, the eldest child born to Sigri Gunnersdatter and Ole Jordal passed away October 4, 1923 in Lee county, Illinois.

Lars was born August 17, 1849 in Jordal, Odda parish, Hordaland county, Norway.   Lars and Isabelle Halvorson married in Lee county on April 8, 1875.   Isabelle was born in August, 1851 in Illinois and died in April 1910.

Both Isabelle and Lars were buried at the First Lutheran Church Cemetery in Lee county, Illinois.   Here is a photo of the Jordal plot.

I wasn't able to locate a marker for Isabelle, but there was one for Lars to the left of the monument.

Marie Caroline, Lyman Theador and Alfred Clarence Jordal - deaths

Backtracking just a few years, in 1913, three of Sigri Gunnersdatter and Ole Larson's grandchildren passed away and were buried in the month of February.    Marie Caroline, the 3rd child born to Anna (Jossendal) and Gunder Jordal, Lyman Theador, their 7th child and Alfred Clarence, their 9th and final child all died within a few weeks of each other.

Here is the funeral record* from the First Lutheran Church of Lee, Illinois.    Marie Caroline is entry #6, her brothers Lyman Theador and Alfred Clarence are #7 and #8.

I walked the First Lutheran Cemetery 3 times and was unable to locate a marker for any of the three Jordal children, though quite a few markers are worn and difficult if not impossible to read.    I do not know whether a marker was ever made for Marie, Lyman and Alfred.

(Martha and Maria Jordal, entries #4 and #5 were the children of Ingeborg (Larson) and Lars H Jordal.   Again, while there is a possibility there was some distant blood relationship with the Jordal family that descended from Sigri Gunnersdatter and Ole Larson, the only connection of which I'm aware was that Lars H Jordal had lived at the same Jordal farm in Norway.)

Anna (Jossendal) and Gunder Olson Jordal - burial

Gunder Jordal, the 4th child born to Sigri Gunnersdatter and Ole Jordal passed away on April 9, 1911, most likely in Milan township, DeKalb county, Illinois.

Gunder was born in Jordal, Odda parish, Hordaland county, Norway on May 25, 1859.   Gunder and Anna Larson Jossendal married March 12, 1894 in Lee county, Illinois.

Anna died February 25, 1959 in DeKalb county, Illinois.    Anna and Gunder were buried at the First Lutheran Church Cemetery in Lee, Lee county, Illinois.

Following Gunder's death, Anna's companion was Eling Winterton.   Eling was born in Norway on November 12, 1865 and died in Malta, DeKalb county, Illinois on April 22, 1945.   Here is his marker next to the Jordal monument.
