1930 US Census - Omund Jordal

Omund Jordal, the youngest child of Sigri Gunnersdatter and Ole Larson was living in Milan township, DeKalb county, Illinois during the 1930 US Census.

















Living with Omund was wife Ingeborg (Malland) and their children, Harvey, Gordon, Lillian (my grandmother) and Evelyn.

A few of Ingeborg and Omund's sons were living nearby in different households, also seen on this census page.   

Silas was living with the Coefield family as a laborer.   

Omer was living with wife Mabel (Berg) and their son Owen and Omer's brother, Olai.

1929 plat map - Milan Township, DeKalb County, Illinois

Here is the 1929 plat map for Milan Township, DeKalb county, Illinois.























Three sons of Sigri Gunnersdatter and Ole Larson continued to have property in the township.  

The properties owned by Lars (quadrant 31) and Gunder (quadrant 30) Jordal were still showing in their names even though they had both passed away prior to 1929.   Transfer of title apparently had not taken place.    My great grandfather, Omund Jordal's properties were located in quadrants 20, 21 and 31.

Edith married Carl Larson on July 5, 1928 in St Louis, Missouri.     Edith was the daughter of Anna (Jossendal) and Gunder Jordal.

Omund Jordal - property

In 1927, my great grandfather, Omund Jordal, son of Sigri Gunnersdatter and Ole Larson purchased* 160 additional acres of land in Milan township, DeKalb county, Illinois for $29,600.




































The property was located on Tower Road, 1/2 mile north of Lee Road and 2 3/4 miles south of Perry Road.

Isabelle (Halvorson) and Lars Olson Jordal - burial

Lars Jordal, the eldest child born to Sigri Gunnersdatter and Ole Jordal passed away October 4, 1923 in Lee county, Illinois.

Lars was born August 17, 1849 in Jordal, Odda parish, Hordaland county, Norway.   Lars and Isabelle Halvorson married in Lee county on April 8, 1875.   Isabelle was born in August, 1851 in Illinois and died in April 1910.

Both Isabelle and Lars were buried at the First Lutheran Church Cemetery in Lee county, Illinois.   Here is a photo of the Jordal plot.























Here is a photo of the Jordal monument.




































I wasn't able to locate a marker for Isabelle, but there was one for Lars to the left of the monument.

The photo was probably taken in front of the home of my great grandparents, Ingeborg (Maland) and Omund Jordal and 4 of their sons.    I'm not sure whether it's Olai, Harvey, Martin, Omer, Ernest, Silas, Kinnie or Gordon.

Ole Jordal - property

Yesterday I posted the Alto township plat map for the grandson of Sigri Gunnersdatter and Ole Larson, Ole Jordal.   Here is a photo of the property as it looked a couple of months ago - just cornfields. 


















This is a view looking northwest from Hermann Road at County Line Road.    According to the plat map the house would have been near the corner but it no longer exists.

Ole Jordal was the eldest son of Isabelle (Halvorson) and Lars Jordal.

Martin Lars Jordal - baptism

Here is the First Lutheran Church of Lee, baptism record* for Sigri Gunnersdatter and Ole Larson's grandson, Martin Lars Jordal (entry #14) born on June 13, 1844 and baptized July 20, 1844.




































Martin was the 5th child born to Isabelle (Halvorson) and Lars Jordal.  




































The witnesses (above) included Martin's uncles, Gunder and my great grandfather, Omund Jordal.

1920 US Census - Susanna (Jordal) Johnson, Simon Jordal, Anna (Jossendal) Jordal and Gilbert Jordal

Here is the 1920 US Census for Sigri Gunnersdatter and Ole Larson's grandchildren, Susanna (Jordal) Johnson, Simon Jordal and Gilbert Jordal.     Sigri and Ole's daughter-in-law, Anna (Jossendal) Jordal is also included on this census from Milan township, DeKalb county, Illinois.


















Susanna (Anna) the daughter of Isabelle (Halvorson) and Lars Jordal was living with husband Arthur and their children, Blanche, Levi and Walter as well as Anna's younger brother, Simon Jordal.

Two households away were Anna and Simon's mother, Anna (Jossendal) Jordal, Elling Winterton, her companion following the death of husband Gunder as well as Anna and Gunder's children, Gilbert, Anna Elizabeth, Martha and Edith.    Anna (Jossendal) Jordal's mother, Anna Jossendal was also living with the family.

Another family living nearby was the family of Seward Sanderson and his son, Lawrence Sanderson who were part of the Finnestad bloodline.
