Omund Jorda and Ingebor (Haldorsdatter Mæland)

Here is a xerox copy* of a photo of Ingeborg (Haldorsdatter Mæland), daughter of Brita (Sjursdatter) and Haldor Nilsson and Omund Jordal, son of Sigri Gunnersdatter and Ole Larson.

I do not know when this photo was taken, though if it were a wedding photo it would have been March 17, 1894.

Omund Jordal - death certificate

Omund Jordal, husband of Ingebor (Haldorsdatter Mæland) son of Sigri Gunnersdatter and Ole Larson was born March 1, 1866 on the Jordal farm, Odda parish, municipality of Ullengsvang, Hordaland County, Norway.    He passed away May 19, 1962 in DeKalb, DeKalb county, Illinois.

Omund lived to the of age of 96, the longest living Jordal in the immediate family.

Here is the only (clear) photo I have of my great grandparents, Ingebor (Haldorsdatter Mæland) & Omund Jordal.

My guess is that this photo was taken in the late 1940's or early 1950's, probably at their residence in DeKalb, Illinois.

1940 US Census - Omund Jordal & Harvey Jordal

By 1940, my great grandfather, Omund Jordal had moved from his farm in Milan township, DeKalb county, Illinois and had purchased a home nearby in the village of Lee, Lee county, Illinois.

Omund and my great grandmother, Ingebor (Haldorsdatter Mæland) were living next door to one of their eight sons, Harvey and his wife Florence (Johnson).

The census indicates Omund was 'unable to work', though the census record did not provide a clear option for individuals that had retired.      Harvey, however, was employed as a petroleum jabber.

Omund was the youngest son of Sigri Gunnersdatter and Ole Larson.    All his siblings had passed away by the time the census was conducted.     If his older sister Martha was still living, I have not been able to confirm when she had passed away.

Omund Jordal - burial

Omund Jordal, son of Sigri Gunnersdatter and Ole Larson was buried at the First Lutheran Church cemetery in Lee county, Illinois.

Omund Jordal - obituary

Here is a small obituary* for my great grandfather, Omund Jordal, youngest child of Sigri Gunnersdatter and Ole Larson.    Omund passed away May 19, 1962 in DeKalb, DeKalb county, Illinois.

Omund was born March 1, 1866 in Jordal at the Odda parish, Hordaland county, Norway.   He traveled to the United States in 1892 and settled in Milan township, DeKalb county, Illinois.   Omund married Ingeborg Haldorsdatter Mæland on March 17, 1894 and had 12 children.

Jordal Family Reunion - DeKalb, Illinois

Here is the only photo of I have of my great grandparents, Ingeborg (Haldorsdatter Mæland) and Omund Jordal.

This photo was taken at the Jordal Family reunion at Hopkins Park in DeKalb, Illinois.   The photo was probably taken in the 1950's.    Unfortunately the photo has been damaged and the face of Ingeborg is not clear.

My great grandfather, Omund Jordal had passed his property located in quadrant 31 to his son, Kinnie.  

The property owned by Gunder Jordal, Omund's brother, located in quadrant 30 was still owned by his estate.

1948 DeKalb directory - Omund Jordal

By 1948, my great grandfather, Omund Jordal had retired from farming and was living in DeKalb, Illinois with my great grandmother, Ingeborg (Maland) at 318 11th street.

Above is the 1948 DeKalb directory.  Omund can be found on the far right column mid-way down the page, though his name was misspelled as Arman.

My great grandfather, Omund Jordal still held his properties located in quadrants 20, 29 and 31.   The property of his brother Lars was held by his estate in quadrant 31 and their brother Gunder's property which was located in quadrant 30 had been transferred to Elling Winterton.

1930 US Census - Omund Jordal

Omund Jordal, the youngest child of Sigri Gunnersdatter and Ole Larson was living in Milan township, DeKalb county, Illinois during the 1930 US Census.

Living with Omund was wife Ingeborg (Malland) and their children, Harvey, Gordon, Lillian (my grandmother) and Evelyn.

A few of Ingeborg and Omund's sons were living nearby in different households, also seen on this census page.   

Silas was living with the Coefield family as a laborer.   

Omer was living with wife Mabel (Berg) and their son Owen and Omer's brother, Olai.

Three sons of Sigri Gunnersdatter and Ole Larson continued to have property in the township.  

The properties owned by Lars (quadrant 31) and Gunder (quadrant 30) Jordal were still showing in their names even though they had both passed away prior to 1929.   Transfer of title apparently had not taken place.    My great grandfather, Omund Jordal's properties were located in quadrants 20, 21 and 31.

Omund Jordal - property

In 1927, my great grandfather, Omund Jordal, son of Sigri Gunnersdatter and Ole Larson purchased* 160 additional acres of land in Milan township, DeKalb county, Illinois for $29,600.

The property was located on Tower Road, 1/2 mile north of Lee Road and 2 3/4 miles south of Perry Road.

Here is a photo of Sigri Gunnersdatter and Ole Larson's grandsons.

The photo was probably taken in front of the home of my great grandparents, Ingeborg (Maland) and Omund Jordal and 4 of their sons.    I'm not sure whether it's Olai, Harvey, Martin, Omer, Ernest, Silas, Kinnie or Gordon.

Here is the 1920 US Census for Sigri Gunnersdatter and Ole Larson's son Omund Jordal (my great grandfather).

Omund was living in Milan township, DeKalb county, Illinois with wife Ingeborg (Maland) and all 12 of their children, Celia, Olai, Harvey, Martin, Omer, Ernest, Silas, Agnes, Kinnie, Gordon, Lillian (my grandmother) and Evelyn.

Omund Jordal - property

In 1915, Kinnie Sanderson transferred a plot of land to my great grandfather, Omund Jordal in section 20 of Milan township, DeKalb county, Illinois for $36,000.

This parcel of land adjoined the property that Omund Jordal had already owned in section 29.

During the 1910 US Census, my great grandfather, Omund Jordal, the son of Sigri Gunnersdatter and Ole Larson was living in Milan township, DeKalb county, Illinois with wife Ingeborg (Malland) and their children, Celia, Olai, Harvey, Martin, Omer, Ernest, Silas, and Agnes.
