Backtracking a bit......
The third child born to Sigri Gunnersdatter and Ole Larson, Martha Jordal was married on January 27, 1882 to Ingebrigt Knudtsen at First Lutheran Church* in Lee, Lee County, Illinois.
(It appears Martha was no longer spelling her name as Marta)
The marriage record indicates Martha was 25, however she was born May 13, 1855. She would have been 26 at the time she married. She would turn 27 a few months later. I guess it's not uncommon to shave a year or two off one's life.

I'm so happy you found a marriage record for Marta, Knudtsen is no way near Strand. Just curious as to how the record ended up at Faith Lutheran in Rochelle?
ReplyDeleteMartha's brothers, Lars, Gunder and Omund all attended the First Lutheran Church so it seemed probably Martha did as well once she arrived in America.
ReplyDeleteIngebrigt's father, Knudt Larson was either born in Strand or lived there at one point. His son was born in the Odda parish, though the baptism record did not indicate what farm or area.
Generally, the farm name was used for the last name, but not always.

Ingebrigt had a potential of 3 names to use, Knudtsen, Strand or Vigene. Vigene was the farm the family lived on during the 1865 Norwegian census.
I have searched all 3 names following his marriage to Martha Olsdatter Jordal in 1882 and have not had any luck, so it's possible they passed away prior to 1900.
