Omund Jordal - death certificate

Omund Jordal, husband of Ingebor (Haldorsdatter Mæland) son of Sigri Gunnersdatter and Ole Larson was born March 1, 1866 on the Jordal farm, Odda parish, municipality of Ullengsvang, Hordaland County, Norway.    He passed away May 19, 1962 in DeKalb, DeKalb county, Illinois.

Omund lived to the of age of 96, the longest living Jordal in the immediate family.

Ingeborg (Haldorsdatter Mæland) Jordal - death certificate

Ingeborg (Haldorsdatter Mæland) Jordal, wife of Omund Jordal, daughter of Brita (Sjursdatter) and Haldor Nilsson was born July 1, 1869 on the Mæland farm, municipality of Ullensvang, Hordaland County, Norway.    Ingeborg passed away January 11, 1958 in Waterman, DeKalb county, Illinois.

Martin Jordal - death certificate

Martin Jordal, son of Ingebor (Haldorsdatter Mæland) and Omund Olson Jordal and grandson of Sigri Gunnersdatter and Ole Larson was born December 4, 1900 in DeKalb county, Illinois.    He passed away July 31, 1985.   

Martin died of a cardiac arrest but the death certificate also indicates he suffered from 'senile dementia'.    Unfortunately most if not all of Ingebor and Omund's children suffered with Alzheimer's as well as Omund. 

Marie Caroline, Lyman Theador and Alfred Clarence Jordal - deaths

Backtracking just a few years, in 1913, three of Sigri Gunnersdatter and Ole Larson's grandchildren passed away and were buried in the month of February.    Marie Caroline, the 3rd child born to Anna (Jossendal) and Gunder Jordal, Lyman Theador, their 7th child and Alfred Clarence, their 9th and final child all died within a few weeks of each other.

I walked the First Lutheran Cemetery 3 times and was unable to locate a marker for any of the three Jordal children, though quite a few markers are worn and difficult if not impossible to read.    I do not know whether a marker was ever made for Marie, Lyman and Alfred.

(Martha and Maria Jordal, entries #4 and #5 were the children of Ingeborg (Larson) and Lars H Jordal.   Again, while there is a possibility there was some distant blood relationship with the Jordal family that descended from Sigri Gunnersdatter and Ole Larson, the only connection of which I'm aware was that Lars H Jordal had lived at the same Jordal farm in Norway.)

Sigri Gunnersdatter - death

My great great grandmother, Sigri Gunnersdatter passed away on January 11, 1914 in Sandvin, Hordaland County, Norway.

Here is the Odda parish death record for 1914.  Sigri is listed as entry #1 on the lower half of the page.

Anna (Jossendal) and Gunder Olson Jordal - burial

Gunder Jordal, the 4th child born to Sigri Gunnersdatter and Ole Jordal passed away on April 9, 1911, most likely in Milan township, DeKalb county, Illinois.

Gunder was born in Jordal, Odda parish, Hordaland county, Norway on May 25, 1859.   Gunder and Anna Larson Jossendal married March 12, 1894 in Lee county, Illinois.

Anna died February 25, 1959 in DeKalb county, Illinois.    Anna and Gunder were buried at the First Lutheran Church Cemetery in Lee, Lee county, Illinois.

Following Gunder's death, Anna's companion was Eling Winterton.   Eling was born in Norway on November 12, 1865 and died in Malta, DeKalb county, Illinois on April 22, 1945.   Here is his marker next to the Jordal monument.

Martin Lars Jordal - death

Lars Jordal, the fifth child of Isabelle (Halvorson) and Lars Olson Jordal and the grandson of Sigri Gunnersdatter and Ole Larson died of diphtheria on August 25, 1888 in Lee County, Illinois.

Here is the First Lutheran Church death record* for 1888.   Lars (#8) was 4 years old at the time of his death.

Ole Olson - death

Ole Olson, the 5th child of Sigri Gunnersdatter and Ole Larson died on May 23, 1881 in Hordaland County, Norway.    Here is the Odda parish (Ole is the 4th entry) record of deaths for 1881. 

The first word "ungk" prior to his name translates to "bachelor".   I can't quite make out the subsequent word, but "tjeneste" translates to service, so it appears it relates to his profession at the time of death.

The parish record indicates he was was born in 1863.   Ole was actually born August 25, 1862.    I looked through the Odda parish birth records for 1863 and no one named Ole Olson from the Jordal farm was born that year.   My guess is that the record keeper was told he was 18 at the time of death and they subtracted 18 from 1881 to come up with 1863.

Ole Larson - death

My 2nd great grandfather, Ole Larson died October 29, 1879 in Odda parish, Hordaland County, Norway.   He was born in late summer or fall 1821.   Ole was either 57 or 58 at the time of his death.   I still have not been able to locate his baptism record so I am unable to confirm the month and day of his birth.

The Odda parish record below (entry #38) indicates he was born in 1829, however, that is in error.  Both his confirmation and marriage documents (which I have posted previously) place the year of his birth as 1821.

Ole Larson's marriage record seems to indicate his father, Lars Olson was from Ragde, which is southeast of the Jordal farm.    Ragde is located southeast of the shores of lake Sandvevatnet.   I am not sure whether my 2nd great grandfather Ole Larson was born in Ragde but my search for his baptism record has been unsuccessful; either it doesn't exist or is not presently available.
