1940 US Census - Milo Jordal

Here is the 1940 US Census for Milo Irvin Jordal, son of Elizabeth (Brown) and Ole Jordal, grandson of Isabelle (Sigursdatter) and Lars Jordal and the great grandson of Sigri Gunnersdatter and Ole Larson.

Milo and family can be found on lines 60 - 64, residing in Alto township, Lee county, Illinois.    Living with Milo was wife Edith (Berg) and their children Marlin, Lois and David.    Also living with the family was Milo's brother-in-law, Lenard Berg.   Both Lenard Berg and Milo Jordal were employed as farmers.

1940 US Census - Iola (Jordal) Zangle

Here is the 1940 US Census for Iola (Jordal) Zangle, daughter of Ida (Luglan) and Alfred Jordal, granddaughter of Isabelle (Sigursdatter) and Lars Jordal and the great granddaughter of Sigri Gunnersdatter and Ole Larson.

Iola was living with her husband Gerald at the home of her father-in-law, George Zangle, wife Flossie and their daughters, Florence and Neva Jean in Baker township, Davison county, South Dakota.    Both Gerald and his father were farmers and Iola's sister-in-law Florence was employed as a teacher in a rural school.

1940 US Census - Martha (Jordal) Askeland and Levi Johnson

In 1940, Martha (Jordal) Askeland, daughter of Anna (Larsdatter Jossendal) and Gunder Jordal and granddaughter of Sigri Gunnersdatter and Ole Larson was living in Lynneville township, Ogle county, Illinois.   Living with Martha was her husband, Adolph Askeland employed as a farmer.

Living a few houses away on the same census record was Levi Orrell Johnson, the son of Susanna (Jordal) and Arthur Johnson and the grandson of Isabelle (Sigursdatter) and Lars Jordal and the great grandson of Sigri Gunnersdatter and Ole Larson.     Levi was living with his wife Anna (Askeland) and their children, Arlene, Robert and Harold.    Levi was also employed as a farmer.

1940 US Census - Omer O Jordal

Here is the 1940 US Census for Omer Jordal, son of Ingebor (Haldorsdatter Mæland) and Omund Olson Jordal and grandson of Sigri Gunnersdatter and Ole Larson.

Omer and family can be found on lines 53 - 57.    Omer, wife Mabel (Berg), their children Owen and Donald as well as a farmhand, Carl Berg were living in Milan township, DeKalb county, Illinois.

Carl was Mabel's brother, their parents were Martha (Borgenvik) and Andrew Berg.

1940 US Census - Martin Jordal

Here is the 1940 US Census for Martin Jordal, son of Ingebor (Haldorsdatter Mæland) and Omund Olson Jordal and grandson of Sigri Gunnersdatter and Ole Larson.

The Jordal family can be found from lines 28 - 31.    Martin was living with wife Alvera (Johnson) and their children Caroline and Marvin in Mayfield township, DeKalb county, Illinois.   Martin was employed as a farm laborer.

Here is the 1940 US Census for Gordon Jordal, son of Ingeborg (Haldorsdatter Mæland) and Omund Jordal and grandson of Sigri Gunnersdatter and Ole Larson.

Gordon was living in Milan township, DeKalb county, Illinois with the Silas T Sanderson family as a hired man.

1940 US Census - Anna (Jordal) Thuestad

Here is the 1940 US Census for Anna (Jordal) Thuestad, daughter of Gunder and Anna (Larson/Larsdatter Jossendal) Jordal and granddaughter of Sigri Gunnersdatter and Ole Larson.

Anna was living with husband Edward Melvin and their children Vernon, Marlene and Donald.    The family was residing in Malta township, DeKalb county, Illinois.

1940 US Census - Alfred Lars Jordal

Here is the 1940 US Census for Alfred Lars Jordal, son of Isabelle (Halvorson) and Lars Jordal and grandson of Sigri Gunnersdatter and Ole Larson.

Alfred was living in Lisbon township, Davison county, South Dakota with wife Ida (Luglan) and their eldest child Arthur.     Both Alfred and Arthur continued their employment as farmers.

1940 US Census - Simon Jordal

Here is the 1940 US Census for Grace (Abbott) and Simon Jordal residing in Fall River county, South Dakota.

Simon was still working as a farmer.    He was the son of Isabelle (Sigursdatter) and Lars Jordal and grandson of Sigri Gunnersdatter and Ole Larson.

Grace Jordal was the enumerator for the 1940 Census.    You can see her name listed on the top right hand portion of the census.

1940 US Census - Omund Jordal & Harvey Jordal

By 1940, my great grandfather, Omund Jordal had moved from his farm in Milan township, DeKalb county, Illinois and had purchased a home nearby in the village of Lee, Lee county, Illinois.

Omund and my great grandmother, Ingebor (Haldorsdatter Mæland) were living next door to one of their eight sons, Harvey and his wife Florence (Johnson).

The census indicates Omund was 'unable to work', though the census record did not provide a clear option for individuals that had retired.      Harvey, however, was employed as a petroleum jabber.

Omund was the youngest son of Sigri Gunnersdatter and Ole Larson.    All his siblings had passed away by the time the census was conducted.     If his older sister Martha was still living, I have not been able to confirm when she had passed away.
