Oden Brown Jordal - confirmation

Here is the confirmation class of 1928 from the Calvary Lutheran Church of Lee county, Illinois.

Oden Jordal, great grandson of Sigri Gunnersdatter and Ole Larson is located in the back road, far right.    He was confirmed (entry #4 below) on December 16, 1928.

Oden's parents were Elizabeth (Brown) and Ole L Jordal.   His grandparents were Isabelle (Halverson) and Lars Jordal.

Edith Matilda Jordal - confirmation

Here is the confirmation class of 1921 for the Calvary Lutheran Church of Lee county, Illinois.

Edith Jordal is located in the front row, seated second from the left.   She was confirmed on November 6, 1921.    Edith is the first entry (below) listed for the confirmation class.   Like her cousin, Ernest, for some unknown reason they were the only two of their generation confirmed at Calvary Lutheran Church that I've encountered, rather than First Lutheran.

Edith was the daughter of Anna (Larson Jossendal) and Gunder Jordal.    Her grandparents were Sigri Gunnersdatter and Ole Larson 

Milo Irvin Jordal - confirmation

Here is the confirmation class of 1920 for the Calvary Lutheran Church of Lee county, Illinois.

Milo Jordal, great grandson of Sigri Gunnersdatter and Ole Larson is located in the first row, far left.    Milo was confirmed October 24, 1920 and is the second to last entry on the list of confirmation classes posted yesterday for his brother, LaVern.

Milo's parents were Elizabeth (Brown) and Ole L Jordal.   His grandparents were Isabelle (Halverson) and Lars Jordal.

LaVern Amos Jordal - confirmation

Here is the Calvary Lutheran Church of Lee county, Illinois confirmation class of 1918.

LaVern Jordal, great grandson of Sigri Gunnersdatter and Ole Larson, is located in the very back row, second from the left.  (Clifford Knutson is standing in front of LaVern and Clarence Knutson).

LaVern (#4) above was confirmed on September 1, 1918 and was 14 years old at the time.   His parents were Elizabeth (Brown) and Ole L Jordal.  LaVern's grandparents were Isabelle (Halverson) and Lars Jordal.

Ernest O Jordal - confirmation

Here is a photo of the confirmation class of 1917 at Calvary Lutheran Church in Lee county, Illinois.

Ernest O Jordal,  grandson of Sigri Gunnersdatter and Ole Larson is located in the front row, far left.

Ernest was the son of Ingeborg (Haldorsdatter Mæland) and Omund Jordal.    His siblings probably attended confirmation classes as the First Lutheran Church, also in Lee county, Illinois.   I do not know why Ernest was the only one who attended Calvary.  

Ernest (entry #1 below) was confirmed November 4, 1917 and was the youngest member of the class.

Myrtle Leila Jordal - confirmation

Myrtle, daughter of  Isabelle Cordelia (Halvorson) and Lars Jordal was confirmed June 30, 1907.

Ole L Jordal - confirmation

I do not have not yet received First Lutheran Church of Lee, Illinois records beyond 1908 so the baptism records for Alfred Clarence Jordal the youngest child of Anna (Larson Jossendal) and Gunder Jordal or the last 5 children (Agnes, Kinnie, Gordon, Lillian and Evelyn) of my great grandparents, Ingeborg (Haldorsdatter Mæland) and Omund Jordal so I'll move onto the few confirmation records available.

Here is the confirmation record for Ole L Jordal (#3) grandson of Sigri Gunnersdatter and Ole Larson.

Ole, son of  Isabelle Cordelia (Halvorson)* and Lars Jordal was confirmed May 10, 1891.

*Isabelle was born in Illinois; had she been born in Norway, her last name would have been that of her father's first name, Sigursdatter.    The First Lutheran records have alternated between Sigursdatter and Halvorson, which may have been common at the time.

Omund Olson - confirmation

My great grandfather, Omund Olson, the 6th and last child of Sigri Gunnersdatter and Ole Larson was confirmed on August 7, 1881.   

Here is the official Odda parish record from Hordaland County, Norway (entry #3) though his first name is misspelled as "Aamund".

A duplicate register was kept so the parish priest and the clerk could compare twice a year to correct mistakes or omissions.    Neither the official nor the copy of the parish records were kept together in the event one was destroyed.    I haven't always found both parish registers, but on the few occasions I have, they have been helpful to decipher illegible handwriting.

Ole Olson - confirmation

Ole Olson, the 5th child of Sigri Gunnersdatter and Ole Larson was confirmed on July 14, 1878.   Here is the Odda parish, Hordaland, Norway record of confirmations.   Ole is the last entry on the list.

Gunder Olson - confirmation

Sigri Gunnersdatter and Ole Larson's 4th child, Gunnar (or Gunder as it was later spelled) Olson was confirmed on October 8, 1876.

Marta Olsdatter - confirmation

Marta Olsdatter, the 3rd child of Sigri Gunnersdatter and Ole Larson was confirmed on July 6, 1873.   Here is the Odda parish record from Hordaland County, Norway.   Marta is the second entry.

Torbjor Olsdatter - confirmation

Torbjor Olsdatter, the second child of Sigri Gunnerdatter and Ole Larson, was confirmed on May 24, 1868.   Here is the Odda parish record, from Hordaland County, Norway.     Torbjor is listed at entry #22.

Lars Olson - confirmation

The first of Sigri Gunnersdatter and Ole Larson's children to be confirmed was Lars Olson.

Listed under June 24, 1866, you find the third entry,  Lars Olson of the Jordal farm.

Sigri Gunnersdatter - confirmation

Here is the confirmation record from the Ullensvang parish in Hordaland County, Norway for my 2nd great grandmother, Sigri Gunnersdatter (left page, middle section #27).

Sigri was confirmed in 1842, though the month and day are illegible.

Ole Larson - confirmation

My 2nd great grandfather, Ole Larson (#29 - seventh from the bottom, left page) was confirmed on November 18, 1838 in Ullensvang parish, Hordaland County, Norway

According to this record, Ole received his vaccinations on January 12, 1824*.     His father (my 3rd great grandfather) was Lars Olson; his mother's name is not legible.   Ole Larson and family moved to the Jordal farm sometime after his birth (late summer/early fall of 1821) and prior to his confirmation.  

*I've not been able to locate the parish record for his birth or vaccinations as the farm name and parish listed are not legible on either his confirmation or marriage parish record.
